
The Thomson Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau is tasked with providing services to the citizens of Thomson before and after a fire. The Bureau can be reached by phone at 706-595-7025 to answer any fire safety related questions. The Bureau's motto is "Be fire pro-active, not reactive."
Education: The Thomson Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau provides education through our Learn But Not Burn Program in our elementary schools using hands on education with the Fire Safety House. Our very own Fire Safety Clowns put on various shows throughout the year using a fun-filled alternative to Fire Safety Education. The Bureau also conducts classes throughout the year at various businesses and industries on fire safety and fire extinguisher use. These classes end with each participant using a fire extinguisher and putting out a controlled burn in a burn pan. We also participate in many community events throughout the year, handing out literature and answering various questions about fire safety.
Inspections: The Thomson Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau has a very aggressive inspection program. Inspectors are tasked with inspecting each commercial building yearly. Then inspectors follow up throughout the year to make sure all deficiencies are cleared as noted on the inspection report. The Bureau also has a strong working relationship the State Fie Marshals Office are Fire Inspector.
Investigations: The Thomson Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau has a full time Georgia Post Certified Fire Investigator. The Investigator responds to all fire calls to determine the origin and cause of the fire. If Arson is then suspected, the investigator collects and processes evidence, interviews witnesses, interrogates subjects and takes out arrest warrants as needed. The Bureau has a strong commitment to proving that Arson is not a crime that pays.
Fire Blitz: After any large residential fire the Thomson Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau, with the help of all full time personnel, volunteer firefighters and explorers, goes door to door in the neighborhood of the fire, handing out a specially made brochure addressing fire safety tips and addressing any concerns neighbors have about the recent fire in their neighborhood.
